About Me
Hello! My name is Ciera Babbrah, and I am a recent MPH graduate of University of Washington. I am a second-generation Punjabi-American, born and raised in Arizona with my parents, younger sister, and grandmother. Outside of my career, I love outdoor activities (hiking, running, camping, stand-up paddleboarding), traveling, and creative projects.
My Story
Growing up, I was visiting my family in India every few years, during which I would witness the adverse impacts of water/food insecurity and inequitable access to healthcare. Returning home, I began volunteering for Water1st International, raising awareness about the global water crisis and fundraising for water security projects, but ultimately realized this is only one small part of the solution. It was during my undergraduate research experience that I began recognizing the complex role of the social determinants of health in communities and populations both at home and around the world. Drawing on this new knowledge and my early experiences with health inequity, I quickly found my passion for global/public health.
My Interests
Within the field of public health, I am particularly interested in health communication, health policy, and program development/evaluation for refugee/immigrant, South Asian, and LGBTQIA+ communities. I am especially passionate about mental health and substance use intervention.
